Check out the jig from Harbor Freight someone above mentioned . I don't think it's too expensive. It's designed to use with a chainsaw on logs to cut 2x4's, but I suspect you might be able to rig it to cut down the center of the pole in one pass. Worth looking at, anyway.

20/20 .. I think he was saying use the saw to get a nice strait groove going to guide the chain saw.

Yes Noel, that is what I meant. The deeper you can cut with the circular saw the easier it will be to cut straight with a chain saw. Also for obvious reasons I would jig the pole so you are cutting straight from the top. It will be easier to cut straight and also won't pinch the chain saw blade.

Ooops, sorry Rottenray6402 i didn't pay attention.<br /> <br />Link and LakeLivin have good ideas. Those little jigs work fair for smaller jobs.I wouldn't use them for alot of poles but for a few they would work.

Don't think the chainsaw jig I mentioned (link below) will work. an ez way to cut the pole would be. . . . pick up two 2 2x4 and a ripping chain for your chain saw. the chain is about the same price but you'll have to shop at a small engine shop for the chain. nail the 2x4's one on each side and use them as a cheap guild bars. If you try to use your normale chain saw chain it will turn your saw dust into spigetti. long and stringy. though your normal saw well cut it, the stringy shavings will cloge up in the clutch area.
