Cylinder head Issues

Ok So I ordered a new Cyl head for my 68 Johnson 33 hp (RXE16R). The OMC website gave me a part number 0311170. The part I recieved is in the original box and has the same part number. However it is slightly different from the part I removed. There was some creative problem solving done on this engine before I aquired it, so this may be the right part, but something tells me no! My question is this
Does anyone know what this cyl head might fit. The difference between the new and old one is the gold outlets above the plug holes. I'm guessing they have something to do with vacuum. Anyone who can identify this, and/or tell me if I can still use this part would be appreciated.

Looks like you've got a head that has decompression chambers...found on for example on the '57 evinrude 35 hp Lark. I do not know when those chambers were discontinued?? Something tells me before '68...but I do not know.

The last motor that had the compression release was the 1961 40hp. Yep, you got a head from a 57 35hp there, Flashcat. Can't you clean up your old head and re-use it?

Wow! thanks for the info. The top plug hole is stripped. I helicoiled it last season and got another year out of it, but now that's leaking also. Found this head on Ebay for half of what a replacement for BRP's site was. Guess the old saying "if it looks too good..." applies.
