Cylinder of 175 RX2 leaking Water

I have a 1997 Mercury 175 XR2 V-6, looking at the engine from the carburator end, the lowest Cylinder on the Right bank is getting water in it. It runs but will not idle. I suspectr the Headgasket to be blowen, am i correct, and is this caused by a bad thermostat? Anyone have any Ideas?

When you pull the head gasket you will know right away if the gasket has a leak in it... Most likly on the bottom side of that cylinders fire ring...<br /><br />A bad thermostat may cause this but it can also form from notmal deterioration.. Since your motor is fairly new however, it may be because of an overheat condition...<br /><br />Pull the head and replace the gasket. Also inspect the head and check for any warpage, by sitting it on a level plate....

Thank you, I asume this leakage is also making this outboard very difficult to start. Would you suggest That I replace the Thermostats, as a mater of procedure, I just purchased this boat and I am not sure when the Thermostats were changed last.

Yes....<br /><br />If the compression on that (or any other) cylinder is low is will be hard to start, let alone run very well.

I did a compression check of all cylinders, the top cycl on both banks are between 95 and 110 lbs, the bottom cyl on both banks are 120 and 125 respectifully, the 125 lb cyclinder is the one that had the water in it, why would the lowere cylinders be that much higher in compression, andwould a blowen gsaket still have that much pressure?
