i planned on running a line that went from the drain on the side of the block and the drain in the manifold and useing a "T" to link tehm together and a valve on the other side so that way all it take is turn a valve and the water is drained out of everything.....

Ayuh,... Don't do it....

Debris will clog 1 drain or the other, 'n when you see water, you'll Think it's drained when it Ain't..

You've gotta be able to Dig the crud outa the actual drain holes to be Safe...
That "Convienence" will cost ya another motor...

I HATE the 1s Merc puts on some of their motors...

good point there bond-o i ddint think of it that what...what about putting seperate valves on the manifold and on the block? if they are just simple check valves then i would still be able to run a piece of wire up and clean crud out of the hole if it gets cloged. it is just that i have a tendency to drop small pieces and not be able to find them back plus the bilge area is kind of small and i am kind of bigger guy and it would make things really easy is all that i am look at there.

update....it already has brass plugs in the block. crank went in today and torked down and you can still turn it by hand after which we put pistons back in with new bearings (which to my suprise the 181 cid motor runs the same rods and rod bearing as a 5.7/350) and naturally a little harder to turn over tehn with out but you still can. tomorrow cam and lifters go back in head manifold and carb goes on. if all goes well i might be able to splash her down for test run by sunday.
