-20 on the car thermometer this morning on the way to church.

In all reality, your body does adjust. When the temp raises to 10 above it feels really nice out..

The hard part is that it takes some additional care to make sure your cars start and are in good shape so you don't get stuck and in real danger.

Also, who needs automatic car starters. Isn't that what kids are for??

Well it has been snowing here for a few days..... I plowed 6" out of the yard yesterday and a fresh 8" from overnight..... they are anticipating 18" more in the next 24 hrs.

Temperatures are comfortable and it has risen to 10 from 4 earlier this morning.

Did I mention the wind? Oh that's the fun stuff. Makes 8" of snow into 48" drifts....... creates some spectacular white outs too.

Any of the snow people here know the rules..... Plow with the storm. I have pushed my yard back extra wide to accommodate the additional snow expected.

The wife came home yesterday and asked why I plowed the yard.lol
Woke this morning with another 8" and it hasn,t stopped. Current temp is 11, wind chill= -8

Got up at 6 this morning to -27F. Put a pan of charcoal under my son's Dodge Cummins diesel. Cranked it up about 7:30. Spent the next hour and a half getting the fuel to flow from the tank to the engine. He finally pulled out to go back to Montana at 9:15.

15 brrr-low now, supposed headed for -20. Bet it hits -25 again.
Winter's about a week and a half old and I'm already sick of it.

Middle teens here for lows in SC. Highs in the 30s to low 40s. No records set yet. I remember many years of much colder weather. Just the normal cycle of weather. Still sucks. I could do without winter. Although I do like to see snow at least one time per year :D We had 6 inches last year and that was fun.

Just 25 degrees here this morning with an expected high of 48 by the afternoon. A little breezy as well. Gonna have an actual windchill factor.

Abundant sunshine though.

gets much colder and you guys might have to learn about winterizing. LOL

20's at night make for good sleeping weather right? I think that's when we put away our shorts up here. LOL

Right on..:D Although, if they ever have to turn the car off, make sure you tell them to turn the key completely off until all the dash lights go out so the battery doesn't drain completely...

Sat morn we had -33 and traveled for 3 hours to the folks to finally have Christmas. Packed snowpants, heavy boots, etc for the trip. Kept the car plugged in once we got there.

Still -13 as we speak.

Why is it when the whole country is in a deepfreeze, you never hear the words Global Warming??? Excuse me, Climate Change....

We were suppose to have an El Nino winter. Less snow, warmer temps. What happened to that???

Re: Dang it is cold, and getting colder

The difference is that ya'll are used to and prepare for this kind of stuff. We wake up to the cold and think in an hour of sunshine it will be gone...

Doesn't always happen. The goats didn't appreciate their water supply being frozen over. Chickens and geese wouldn't lay for a day or so...their water was put in their coops, and still froze. They all have a disturbed look on their faces...

For the rest of the week it's not supposed to get much warmer than the high of 50. And as Ross mentioned, the wind chill is keeping the temp around mid 30's.

Actually Thursday we have a good chance for snow with the forecast of rain and low 30's..

But...thank God I didn't have to build a fire under my truck to get it started and keep it running!..That would really be hard to live with..

Stay safe and pray for a little "climate change"...:)

If we hit the 20's for hi's, I think we're going to have to bring the shorts back out again..

My thoughts exactly. I keep waiting for this "climate change". Bring it on!

El Nino can bring WORSE, colder winters too! Farmers Almanac called this winter pretty good!

I'm confused why someone needs charcoal to heat up a Dodge Cummins, I just plug mine in. Heck, it was in the low teens last night, with brutal winds and mine still starts up, even without being plugged in. I usually plug in when it's under 20.

Yes, whats up with the charcoal, plug it in, I know that when we work up north we take a a few feet of straight stove pipe and a elbow, position it under the oil pan and stuff a tiger torch in, 5 minutes that oils hot. :)

Block heater failed. It's getting fixed as I type.

I remember when a 2 ton truck engine was 216 cid, maybe 130 hp, and the double reduction 2 speed rear end, and the 140 lb transmission had 140W gear lube in them. Full throttle in second over for about 2 miles before it loosened up enough to get third.

That's OK, the nylon bias tires were so square you couldn't stand over 20 mph anyway.

1948 Chevrolet dump truck is what I'm talking about.

Charcoal, actually hot coals from the wood stove, doesn't have any water in the combustion byproducts as a propane flame does. There's no moisture condensing on everything under the hood that way.

I use the torch on the 52 Binder boom truck if I have to get it running in this weather. Better than nothing.

Did you ever work around trucks that had the quick connects on the coolant system, you could take a hot truck and warmed up a cold truck by circulating the coolant, worked good till a hose popped off and antifreeze blew everywhere.
or even worse the tires were froze into 6 inches of ice/mud:eek:
