I would also suggest not changing the layout of the power. one good running motor in front of a well maintained outdrive will last a long time. converting to twin I/O's will be expensive, not to mention, you probably do not have the room.

being an IO, your limited on power only by your checkbook. there are single I/O ,motors available with over 1600 hp (however that would be overkill). however in your case, a good 300hp small block in front of the Alpha drive will be plenty.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I did get a hold of Mercury marine today and found out a little bit on the engine. It is an 88, was never registered to a hull number by the OEM. But no history after that. Right now I'm focusing on getting this engine to turn over, If I can. If not then I will rebuild it.and add the HP I want then. And since my dad taught me to never hire anything out, I will be doing all the labor myself. I have been pricing materials needed to restore it and the $8000 figure is really close to what I have in mind. And this poor Ole Sea Sprite will have a brand new attitude.
