Hello,

First off I am new here so sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I have spent my summer redoing a 1973 Bayliner Saratoga Express. While she is not 100% done she is ready to put on the water. I am fine repairing pretty much anything and everything as long as it does not involve the engine. This is my first freshwater engine, so I am a little shaky on how to dewinterize it. I have done some research online and see everything from just hook it up to the hose and your good to go to mention of plugs…so I need some help. My boat has a 351 Ford Cleveland with a Merc outdrive. What all do I need to do/look for before putting her on the water? I have attached some pictures mainly to show my one big questions. Is there something that is supposed to be in the hole?
Thank you all!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I think you'll find it's a Windsor, 'n not a Cleveland motor,...

If ya go up to the Adults Only section up at the top of this forum, you'll find a link for summerizin' yer boat,...

If ya follow the Mercruiser links, you'll find the factory manuals for yer motor, 'n drive,....

Thank you for your reply! I saw the link in the Adults Only sticky...but I was hoping for a little clarification on how many plugs on the engine I might be looking for...and what, if anything, needs to go in/on the hole in my pictures. I an fairly comfortable with the outdrive, I am assuming it should be pretty much the same as my other boat.

Hmm, interesting on the motor maybe being a Windsor instead of a Cleveland. How exactly would I go about checking that??

Ayuh,.... Mercruiser never used the Clevelands,... Don't think anybody else did either,...

As for drain plugs, 1 on each side of the block, atleast 1 or 2 in the manifolds, 'n hook the big hose back up,...
So long as the impeller pumps water, light 'er off,...

If ya see water sprayin' outa somewhere, that might be a missin' drain plug,..

I don't think anything goes in the hole, pic. #2,...

Awesome! That was the past I was most concerned with :)
The engine was an after-market addition to the boat. Bayliner didn't have Ford as an option on this model...

That looks like a windsor to me. Square port heads with square port log style manifolds. Either way its a pre 1974 block because the oil dipstick is still up by the timing cover. Nice painted toe nails btw :D

I believe you will find two drain plugs per side on that block. No drain plugs are on those manifolds.

Bond-o already mentioned the water pump hose that needs reconnected.
