I have a 1975 50 hp johnson. It will run at idle but will not open up and run. I have built the carbs and fuel pump. When the throttle is wide open it just bogs and sprays gas out the front of the carbs this is the initial problem and nothing has changed since the repairs. It also has new plugs. The engine runs fine when out of the water and on the hose pipe. I have adjusted the carbs back and forth and nothing changes. Does anyone think I should replace the reed valves and where are they located on my engine?

Re: Dead End

spraying out the front is cause by reed valves behind the carbs usually. may be bent,or varnish build up, they are not closing allowing compression to blow back thur the carbs.
