Dealer pricing?

For those of you who bought from a dealer, how much can you expect them to drop the price? I'm looking at a boat for $3900 even asking price. 1992 Rinker captiva 181 with a 3.0 merc.

For that boat not much, the less you are dealing with the less room they have to move, if it were a $50,000-$60,000 boat they would have alot more room to move, I would say the best you could do is maybe $500 at most.

You never know, all they can do is say no so offer what you want to but be ready to hear no.

I figured they probably gave the guy 1000 bucks though. I asked best pricing for a cash deal, and he just responded "we'd be ok at 3450". I'm gonna offer 3k and tell him id come get it this weeked. I can turn around and sell for 3900 in spring easy

Some dealers turn around and sell used boats for what they paid for them. They make money by selling the new ones and just get the trade to do so.

Let's hope that's the case. I'm gonna call him tomorrow. Just looking for a nice, newer boat (have 1982 imperial v183) with a radio.... 15 more horses isn't bad either

For a used boat, it depends on how much HE paid for it. If he really screwed the former owner, you have a better chance of talking him down.

I bought a new Starcraft utilty last year.....just the boat, no accessories or rigging. Cash deal. We have 2 dealers in town. The "list" price was $3900 and one dealer would have sold it to me for $3800. I bought it at the second dealer for $3200, and that was after I talked him down from his original offer of $3250.

Just a suggestion... Don't offer anything over the phone. Go in there with 3000 cash and offer it to the dealer. You've got a much better chance with cash in hand.

used boats are like used cars.... haggle like no tomarrow.. then walk away.. i know its hard to do when you have that beauty in your eye. they will deal with you. new boats ...not so mush . but you can find that occasional manager that will throw in frebies to sweeten the deal.
