1999 V6 Suzi?? Yes, they were available, but I don't think in 4 strokes. I think Suzi introduced the V6 4 strokes in '01 or '02.

Yes, you can decarb a 4 stroke, but why bother? Four strokes burn gas, not oil, unless they need much more extensive work than a decarb.

Can you clarify for us what your engine really is?

Take the crap out of the back of your SUV (bet you have a lot of stuff in there), put more air in the tires, put in a new set of spark plugs, change the air filter, and reset the ignition timing (you can probably advance it 1-2 degrees from spec). Now it will run as good as new.

Hey, 4 cycles need to be decarbed too. Not as often as 2 cycles but they still certainly get carbon buildup in all kinds of places. For all you know this guy could have 300,000 miles on his engine and it's never been cleaned inside. I Seafoam'ed my Cherokee and it made an instant difference in idle speed, along with a noticeably smoother running engine.

Do service stations have Motorvacs down there? (Motorvac - machine for cleaning injectors/carbon from fuel injected cars/trucks).
Might be just what you need.

I'm with JimD - do the easy stuff first. Get all those old outboards out of the back. :D

when you decarb a four stroke, do you add the seafoam to the gas, or spray it into the intake manifold? Or both?

Y'know, LD, if I didn't believe you to be a gentleman it would be easy to take that as an insult.

Yes, I shook my head, but you remember that this question about an Automobile engine was first posted in General Outboard.

Yes you decarb four strokes. Yamaha recommends Ring free in the gas. Its Recommend that you change the oil and filter a couple hours after starting the use of ring free. The carbon ends up in the oil. Valve will still carbon up in a four stroke out board.

Yes, you should change the oil after using any type of decarb product.

Re: decarb a 4stroke?

anybody ever pour a quart of tranny fluid down the intake? don't laugh sure it looks like ya blew up but after it cleans itself out works wonders and alot cheaper than seafoam or a motorvac

Re: decarb a 4stroke?

That is a BAD idea. Seafoam isn't very expensive. If you really want to you can make it for about 1/10th of the price - isopropyl alcohol, naptha, and oil. ATF is for transmissions. Leave it there.

Re: decarb a 4stroke?

I've actually dumped a quart down the throat of a carb once. Worked great.
I don't think I will ever try it on an EFI engine though! It would be near impossible to do anyway...

Re: decarb a 4stroke?

yes, i have a 1999 suzuki grand vitara v6 efi. 98000 miles .its my wifes actually, and i have to admit, knock on wood, but it has NEVER broken down and we had it since new. ever ever ever. she had the oil replaced once before i came along , it had 20k miles when we got together and i have done it 4 times myself and 2 times at a service station.

for the very minimal effort we have put into this motor, it runs pretty darned good for being 5 years and 100k miles old

but i gotta say, it starts instantly every time, no matter the weather or temp and runs all day long and still gets 22 miles a gollon.

but i think i will try the"

Hehe...my Jeep has 200,000 on it, and has never broken down or had anything done to it. Gets 20mpg in the city too...which is unheard of for a Jeep of any kind! :D

Re: decarb a 4stroke?

i'm not saying to use it as preventive maint. We have used it at work as a last ditch effort on a 92 chevy 4.3 that idles alot, seafoam didn't touch it did the tranny fluid and by time half the quart was gone so was the knock it had from carbon build up. also worked with a guy a long time ago who bought a scout plow truck got it for a song cause guy thought it had a bad rod bearing. an old timer we worked with told him to try it and sure enough it worked on that one too.

Well, for what it's worth, I decrb my lawnmower engines and it seems to make them run better and quieter. May be my imagination, but they have lasted a long, long time.
