got over some engine issues, so now back to my original issues :)

Anyone used sani-tred to recover your deck?

http://www.sanitred.com/

All the carpet is out, so i've pretty much got to wall to wall it with something, and i like the sound of this.

Can it handle the flex of a wood deck (as it seems to be made for concrete)? And is it tolerant of UV? These are the concerns that are usually raised when someone asks about using one of the garage floor coating products in their boat and I have the same concerns about Sani-Tred.

It's more expensive than gelcoat, but according to their fluff, is more flexible, uv resistant, and waterproof than anything else in it's price range. There is an amount calculator on the order page, i used 18ft x 6 ft x 1 ft, which would overestimate, i think, and it came to ~$420.00.
There are some pictures of marine applications on the home page, all much nicer boats than mine... So i kind of wonder if it's overkill, or if it'd be worth it.

I think we need a new Forum for " What do you think about this unknown product.. nobody has used it but I still would like some advise about it ".

I suggest you use it..and get back to us in 2 years..

I guess the OP didn't know nobody ever used it and had to ask the question..... I remember getting a little smack for jumping on a poster that asked for advice and then wanted to do it his way..... I think I was told "I think a possible few " eeek gads my golly sorry about that dude " would be greatly appreaciated"

I really dont see why Iboat members have to Google things up that the OP could have spent looking it up on there Own.

I mean. I might get rash from time to time ( and Im completely out of line sometimes I admit ) but there are some that dont research and confront with why they are leaning towards a product. ...

Now Its Wood's job..or someone else ?... EZ or Bob .. or myself and others that takes time to actually Research said product and give an opinion on that product. Why doesnt the OP do this..

Im kinda tired of it myself...

I'm not AFRAID to experiment with UNPROVEN Marine products and I DON'T mind doing a little research to find out what the possibilities are. What I do object to is CLOSED MINDEDNESS and thinking there is only ONE WAY to skin a cat. As long as it's safe and you're willing to accept the consequences of failure then why not give it a shot. That's how most of the products we use today got to where they are. If not all boats would still be made out of WOOD!!!

i did look it up. which is why there is a link... I asked if anyone had used it. You obviously haven't, so thank you for speaking up. If I happen to post about anything else you haven't done, please feel free to chime in again...

Re: deck repair/ recover

This is coming along nicely IMO for someone who has never done this before. I basically rebuilt the support structure for the gas tank cover with treated 2x4 and 1x1, screwed it into existing with composite screws then poly resin'd the whole structure. I'm wishing i'd have gotten 3/4 instead of 1/2 marine plywood, but that was the measurement of what i tore out. So i resin'd the underside, dropped it in, more composite screws, epoxy putty on all the seams and resin'd the top side. I'm 1/2 done with the first layer of fiberglass.

It's taking longer than i thought, but it always does, so i won't get to coat until next weekend. Since i went with sani-tred, is there any reason to put more than one layer of glass down? Cause i'd much rather be 1/2 done than 1/4 done with this part.

Just curious when you had the deck off did you check for wet foam?rotten stringers and transom condition?

Also with the pressure treated wood did you make sure it wasn't contacting the aluminum fuel tank?

How would a person know if no one has used it until they ask the question? Someone may have used it and never mentioned it before. I mean, there are ALOT of people on this forum. Give the guy a break.

Tend to agree a little there....I've tried a few things over the years that didn't work out, and wouldn't mention it unless it was brought up by someone else. The whole point of the forum is to learn from others experiences or lack of, right?

I didnt have to dig that deep, only the cover for the tank was gone, the compartment containing the tank is solid on all 3 sides, and the bulkhead between the motor and the tank has already been replaced. I made extremely sure nothing was touching the tank (but it's plastic) and that i can still access the fuel hose assembly, and wiring harness to the sender.

Re: deck repair/ recover

ok that's done. pleased so far. non skid doesn't skid, and it held up to the 15 degree tip on my 3000 psi pressure washer at 2 inches away. also pulled a plug out of one of the paint mixing cups i used and cut it open, it is the consistency of a hockey puck on the outside and a sneaker sole on the inside. i bought a gallon of permafelx, a gallon of lrb, 2 quart of tav, and a gallon of permaflex uv for an 18 ft bow rider, covering every single inch of deck including the under bow compartments and ski locker with 2 coats of each. Cost was ~330.00, used ~1/2 most of the materials, and 3/4 of the top coat. probably could have cost 200.
