Deck replacement question! New deck running downhill toward middle of boat, why?

Hi there. I have an 87 bayliner and I'm getting ready to glass in the floor. BUT one thing i cannot figure out is why there seems to be a 1" space between my deck and the stringers up where the ski locker hole is cut. It's almost like the stringers are two low, but this can't be because only one stringer was replaced and both sides run downhill (inward)toward the skilocker hole when i'm putting weight on the deck. It's not glassed in yet but I hope to do so soon. I thought possibly I need to shave some from the edges of the deck so it sits lower in the hull but when I cut out the old deck, I could have sworn it ran right up to where I have the new deck cut to meet the hull now. I could use some advice. thanks...Chris

the only reason for that gap is that the new deck is too wide....and is sitting higher on the hull than the old.
that is also why it seems to be at a slant...because it is sitting too high and on an angle. look for your old deck lines, and cut the deck beam to fit
grind back the bottom edge if you have to.
you can also see the height in the walkway to the bow

in the capris. there is a mismatch in stringer height from amidships to aft.
this is because there was a 5/8ths piece of wood over the gas tank....then the 1/2 inch deck on top of that.
but the stringers were made lower to accommodate the 5/8 ply tank cover.

This is why these forums are the greatest!!! Thanks Oops! i cut the deck back a few inches on each side and pl'd the deck into place today. You were right. Really appreciate the advice.
