Deck replacement

I have a 1975 glastron v156 and the floor is completely rotted out, I'm not going to cover it up so I've began tearing it out. What do I do next? Please help!!

Keep on going,I'm shure the stringers are rotted,and the foam is very wet. They rot from the bottom up.

My best advice to you would be to start reading the other fiberglass boat restoration threads, if you really want to fix your boat you'll find them both interesting and informative. You'll see what you need to do through the pictures taht're posted better than someone can explain it in words.

As far as what you'll need to do to your boat:

1. Remove rotten decking

2. Remove wet/rotten foam.

3. Remove rotten stringers.

4. Remove rotten transom.

5. Grind the inside of your hull down to nice fresh pink glass.

6. Clean everything up.

7. Replace transom.

8. Replace stringers.

9. Decide if you want to replace the foam before or after the deck goes in and then either install the foam or decking.

As I said before, read a lot of the other f'glass resto threads and you'll know what to do and how to do it before you start work on your boat.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have and post lots of pics of your boat and work.

Ok so I have to ask, what are the stringers?? I've seen that alot on here and I have to be honest I dont know what those are..I can already tell I'm going to have to do a full overhaul of this thing so I'm sure ill need a lot of help along the way, thanks everyone

Stringers are the main supports that run from bow to stern. They are part of the structure of the boat. As stated,read all the restoratin threads,and ask anything you need on here!

Ok cool that pic makes sense of it. In my boat the stringers and bulkheads are in fact rotting, but they are also covered in fiberglass so is it ok to still tear them out, carefully of course

Yup, the ones in that pic were rotten and covered in fiberglass too and had to be removed with new ones put in their place.

Hey Jeremy,
I have a '75 V156 that I'm tearing down as well. I would recommend you watch the video series that Josh Mink (jmink) has put together of his '73 Glastron restoration. It's super informative and detailed and Josh does a great job explaining how he did things on his boat and why he did them the way he did. Hope that help!
