Deep Cycle Battery Charging

A simple question but I can use the advice. My stand-alone auto battery charger has options for charging at either 2 or 12 amps (with a regular and deep cycle selector as well). Anyways, I use this battery alot for trolling and therefore charge it often. Only a single batt set-up. So what is best......charge at 2 or 12amps, and why? I know of the obvious differnce in charging time but wondering about extending battery life too. Thanks for any sugestions and rationale.

Bill

Re: Deep Cycle Battery Charging

On the top of this screen is a red word search. Click on that and type in the words battery charging and hit enter. YOu can probably spend hours reading on the subject. The problem is that everyone has an opinion on the subject. The main thing is to get a charger on it as soon as possible. Make sure battery has a full charge on it over winter so the cells dont freeze. Plan on only getting about 3 years out of the battery and then replacing it.
