Yup. Way cool. There's a place down here offering an all expense paid January hunt for cow elk at just $750. That's a lot of meat for the price, considering even the cows weigh 500 pounds or more.

Yesterday was the last day of hunting season at Chaz, so I went over to check out the game board just before sunset. The results for all three seasons combined were pretty sad, to say the least. Only one deer taken since I last hunted on 25Dec10.

The total number of deer for this season is nineteen FEWER than last season! Yow. Sad.

We got no deer but lots of their cousins the caribou....this was taken last year on the trans Labrador Highway during the migration....as you drive through in a vehicle you can almost smack them on the arse. Any resident can get a license and can also be designated to shoot one for another person if they are not able to get their own. We also got an overpopulation of moose here.
I try not to travel the highways after dark.

Last week of smokepole here ... almost got out of the car today ... a buck and doe standing about 75 yards off the road, only problem was they were 75 yards behind the Advance Auto Parts store and right along the major highway ... just didn't think the parts store guys would appreciate me shooting from their parking lot! LOL!

Hi Everybody.... I assume for the most part, all our deer seasons have wrapped up. With the possible exception of a lucky few. I just wanted to thank everyone that contributed to, and shared thier stories on this thread over the last several months. I have really enjoyed reading thru them ! Got a venison roast in the oven right now, as the deer gods provided for me this year. Have a great 2011 all !!! Paul

here is a pic of the buck i shot this year, during modern gun, but the deer gods have been good to us this year as well. also i have a doe in the freezer(took with a smoke pole). and a bobcat took with the .357 mag. already looking forward to next year

Tomorrow is the last day ... not sure I will get to go any, but will try. Let you know if I get lucky. Saw a nice doe today, but she was in the middle of PITTSBURGH! I didn't think the city-slickers would enjoy me getting out beside the 6 lane highway with a smoke pole or the bow to stick her. ... LOL!

I'm done for the year ... small game hunting with the littlest aspeck, but done for big game. Didn't see anything today, but chased 2 out to the wife ... and she wasn't hunting, just looking out the window! She said if I had been where she was I would have had an easy shot ... go figure! This year they were smarter than I was ... I give up, they win!

Your more then welcome bud.....but....Just advanced warning, the last two years we filled tags at 11,500' and its a 7-8 mile hike from the trail head, up two avalanche shutes, so bring your own oxygen!! Looks like next year we will have 5 in camp, me and my partner normally spike hunt(carry enough to spend the night on the mountain) sometimes one of the others does too but the other two don't. Hard to leave them alone due to darkness and then hike out and then back in the morning, if were in them then we stay out until sunrise. We Bow hunt the same area that we rifle hunt so we have the area down.

Well, just got done cleaning a small doe ... no, I did not shot her out of season ... the snow plow hit her this morning ... probably the doe that I chased past the wife on the last day of season! Anyway, I couldn't let her hang because I will be heading out of town the end of the week, so I just cut her up and put her in the freezer this morning. Time for a shower and back to work. Got all the driveways plowed that I needed to before she was hit (no, I didn't hit her, the township truck did ... no damage to the plow. She was a little tore up, but not too bad.

I may take you up on that ... I am waiting to see if the 10,000 acres we usually hunt on will be open or not. Have to come the 2nd season this year because of scheduling. We have hunted the 7,500 foot elevation, and I have been above the 11,000 foot elevation, and I know that takes it out of you! I had to tell myself to breath!

I should know if my guy is coming through or not, if not, we are looking for a place to come ... I was bringing 6 guys out with me, but most of them wouldn't want to hunt those conditions. I may be yelling for some advice. Wife said I could go this year because I have dropped 60 pounds and promised to drop another 40.

I agree that its great to not let it go to waste, Couple years ago my sister called me up to tell me traffic into Denver was all backed up and it was because some idiot was cleaning an Elk on the side of the road......you should have heard her response when I told her I was happy it didn't go to waste! You would have thought I shot her horse.....City people who needs them!
