Delco est distributor timing not advancing

I have the delco est distributor set up, that I just purchased and when I install the 4 pin plug that has the looped wire and connect 12 volts to the other wire, and set it to 8degrees, and remove the 4 pin plug and raise the rpm's to 2200 the timing still reads 8 degrees, not sure why it is not advancing. I have searched around to make sure I am doing it correct and It looks like I am. I don't want to try to rev higher to see what happens since the motor is a fresh rebuild with about 30 minutes of total run time.

Make sure the engine is running BEFORE you hook up the timing lead and removing it.
It's also possible the module is bad. I have had brand new ones out of the box that wouldn't advance.

I did make sure it was running first and I called the place the distributor kit came frorm and I told him I think the module is bad and he said to send it back to him and he would send it to pertronix and once they confirmed it was bad he could send another could take 2 to 3 weeks. If that is the only thing that can be wrong I will probably buy a new one and return this one and then have spare. Are the modules marine specific or are they all the same.

Are the modules marine specific? Good question, acording to the small block chev marine performance the marine one has 22 dedrees advance starting at 600 all in by 2800 to 3000. My Snap On timing light tells me the automotive one has the exact same advance curve so IN MY OPINION they are the same.

Okay I am more confused know than ever I pulled my 87 gmc dump truck up to the garage and just pulled the ignition module out of it and put it in the boat and same thing. Am I doing it all correct? I am starting the boat then plugging the timing connector in the dist with the D and C connectors are looped together and B goes straight to the battery. I set it at 8 degress then I unplug the timing connector from the distributor and start raising the rpms and even up to 3000 it still reads 8. I also am doing this on the trailer with muffs is this okay?

Question? How is it running at 3000 RPMS? Does the motor sound right? If it is running good i would think that it is advancing. If it is running poorly then something is wrong. Could be the timming light that you are using. Just a thought

It doesn't sound bad I have tried two timing lights and according to the guy I just talked to he said the module I have has to be bad I just bought another module and should have it tomorrow. So we will see what happens he said the standard gm ones are different and they will not advance.

Well I got my new module today and works great I really like the people at michigan motorz I highly recomend them. The pertronic D2002 module just does not work like this.
