Wow, Guess I got lucky and just found a copy at a local book store. GREAT book! Not enough info on ignition curves but very good over all.

Re: Dennis Moore performace Books

Tell ya what Stan, I'll ask tomorrow, if they have another, it's yours for cost + shipping.

There's a few problems on pages 192 and 193.

I'm sure they're misprints but, the V8-22 and V8-22a are mislabeled, switch the "a". The V8-22 is 22 degrees at 3,400 rpm, the V8-22a is 22 degrees at 4,400 rpm.

Also, under the V8-24s, between the 8.5 and 13, there is an 11 or 11.5 missing, step all the numbers down one to fit the 11 in, then change the second 23 to 23.5 and make the original 23.5 a 24. The V8-24s is 24 degrees at 4,600 rpm. For the time being, I'm only looking at the V8-22a and V8-24s, but, the 94 350 Mag calls for 32 degrees at 3800 rpm. The book says it uses the V8-24s. They don't match. Hmmmmm......

That may not be perfect, but the curve looks wrong, I'll keep digging.

The Delco curve on the next page looks like it's way off unless they're counting (or not counting depending on how you look at it?) vacuum advance, which would be pulled off at lower rpm.

Did that make any sense? :p :D ;)

You'll have to look Long,+ Hard to find a Vacuum Advance on Any Mercruiser..........

All of thr curves you're looking at are Electronically Advanced........

What a deal 1900sx...

I'd sure appreciate it..I've tried several different places to no avail...Maybe the rest will be easier to decipher when looking at it...

Stan

Thanks Paul....
The manual that "is " available is for Big Block engines...unless I've overlooked it somehow..

The elusive one is for small blocks...

Thanks for the tip though....Stan

It's a Delco, not a Merc and should be the same as the automotive curve, they use the same chip.

I know they are supposed to be, but that Delco curve looks like a mechanical/vacuum, thats the problem....

Re: Dennis Moore performace Books

1900sx,

Don't know if this helps with advance curves, but the merc service manual has a copy of graphs for V8-22, V8-22a, and V8-24S. Your 22 and 22a match with the manual. 22 used in 5.0L/LX, 22a in 5.7L alpha & mie.

I'll try to give more detail on 24S: 0 degrees min=900rpm, max=1100rpm, linear to 2100RPM min=17.5degrees, max=20.5 degrees, linear to 4800RPM min=22.5degrees, max=25.5degrees, Says its used in 5.7L bravo/350 mag alpha/mie 5.7L comp ski/mie 350 mag ski, and think I've seen it listed on ebay from a 454 merc???

They probably meant 32 total advance at 4800. 24 advance + 8 inital = 32 total.

If you haven't seen this: http://www.sterndrives.com/precisionparts/266.html
Lots of part # on modules.

Re: Dennis Moore performace Books

Thanks John, Great link! I love you guys, you have no idea how much you've all helped in guiding my research. Thank You Everyone! :D

They probably meant 32 total advance at 4800. 24 advance + 8 initial = 32 total
Right, but the module only has 24, I allowed for initial. Only the V8-24 match's what the manual calls for, (32 @ 3800 rpm with 8 initial), and it wasn't used on the 350 Mag.

John, can you come up with the complete curve? From what you've posted, I may be right on the V8-24s. You've posted it's linear high and low, the chart doesn't show it that way. I'd really like to see it and don't have real book.

Re: Dennis Moore performace Books

OUTSTANDING!

OK, My idea kinda fits, the chart in Mr. Moore's book is "pretty much" correct as it allows for Mercs production tolerances by wandering up and down within that range. I now see the chart shows a "typical" module and not the "theoretically perfect" modules curve.

The V8-24s it shall be then, unless I can disable the rev limiter on the V or find the Vortec 350 Mag Tbolt V with 5100 rev limiter to be compatible.

Now we start on the exhaust risers, do I or don't I. Heheh.... :p

Oh, and thank you too Mr. Moore, you've made research and verification far easier than I'd hoped.
