I was looking through the manual yesterday and I have to agree that it sure doesn't go into much detail on how to use it. Also went to their website and was able to watch a few videos there but again pretty plain and more of an advertisement than any kind of tutorial.

Most of my fishing is done on lakes that are 1000 acres of less and it's pretty hard to get lost on those. The wife this winter suggested a trip to the Big River and was kind of intimidated as to getting lost. This would certainly help.

Also started looking at other cards for it and like others I've read there are certainly wide reviews of all of them. So how does one pick one w/o spending the money only to find it wasn't worth it?

I have found that the best way to learn to use the Lowrance units is to goto the support section of the website and download c the Emulator.
Why this is not included with the unit or discussed in the manual makes no sense to me.
Also the Elite 5 just got a major software update that is available for download. It turns the Elite 5 series into thevElite 6 software wise

Went to the site and found the Emulator. Unfortuneately they don't have one for the Elite HDI. I did download the one they do have and played with it a bit. It's still lacking. The update I see is listed as 2.0, is that the one you're refering too? What's added if you know?

So far it's still in the box as we still have hard water here in Wisconsin!
