1973 115hp evinrude # 115393m. With ign switch in run position and blk with yellow stripe wire to power pack disconnected from pp. Fluke blk to ground and red to wire Iv`e got 0.25 volts. I`ll replace ign switch. Can I run with bkl/yellow disconnected and use choke to kill motor? I can`t get a switch where I`m located, Would this also cause hard starting? Thanks Roger

Re: Destroying my power pack

My controls have a toggle switch just above the key switch for the electic choke. Can I rewire and use the switch you showed or do I need the exact same switch I now have? Can I run with blk/yellow disconnected and use choke to kill motor. Thanks Roger

Why do you want to do that?
blk/yel is always open until it is grounded to kill ignition

What is the problem?

Re: Destroying my power pack

Yes it should be open. However my ign switch is back feeding 0.25 volts to my pp. In (johnson 225 rough running at all rpms), yesterday @ 11:17 Mr Joe Reeves states that if even a small amount of voltage is evident, then normaly the ign switch is faulty. to replace, will cause pp damage. Roger

you can do away with the choke toggle, and use the push key switch, just follow the diagrams. properly wire you should have solved all your problems, unless a wire is shorted between control and motor.

Joe knows what he's talking about. If he said to change the switch, I'd be changing the switch.

Lot easier than doing all that re-wiring and the wiring allready looks like a road map of Detroit, don't make it worse.

To answer your question, yes you can run with the black/yellow disconnected without harming anything. However you won't be able to turn it off with the key switch. Neither will your emergency kill switch work (if you have one).

Re: Destroying my power pack

Well I disconnected The blk/yellow from the ign switch and no longer have voltage at the pp. I will be ordering a new switch from iboats. Just wondering, a couple of months ago I did a spark check and had a bright blue spark. Yesterday I did a spark check and have a white spark (all checks at 1/2 inch) I will check spark again with blk/yellow wire and let you know the results. Hope I didn`t permanetly ruin my pp Thanks to all Roger

Re: Destroying my power pack

Try a spark test with a 3/8th inch gap.
If its not blue we have a problem Houston.;)

Re: Destroying my power pack

If it is jumping a 1/2" gap, it is fine. Sorry, I don't put all that importance on color. Just my 2c.
