Have a detonated piston on my 85 Evinrude.<br />Boat sounded any ran fantastic!!!!!<br />Open up your cylinder head, remove the head gasket and examine pistons and cylinder walls.<br />Youll see bits of the piston missing on the circumfrence top sides along with possible scoring in cylinder - if spark/pre-ignition, I believe the center of the piston would be affected.<br />Pre-ignition, lean fuel in that cylinder, overheating and water are the culprits. If you have pre-ignition, correct it BEFORE it leads to detonation. You may dodge a bullet

Most likely youll never hear a thing. We detonated one on the dyno once -- on purpose just to see. As ready as we were it still locked up faster than we could reduce rpm, flood the motor (with fuel primer) and / or shut it off.<br /><br />That was fun!
