Looking for some input on the new Df 140 suzuki . Could this engine handle a 20 ' bayliner 2800 lb boat with a deep v hull . Not looking for great speed just avg 33 mph like the 150 force that came off it .

Re: Df 140 suzuki input

Suzuki 4 strokes are engines that users fall desperately in love with. I call it user friendliness. Do the scheduled maintenance on time and they are as trouble free as a car.

The DF140 is unusual in that it is very light (410lb) for an EFI 4 stroke engine in that HP range and it is pretty small displacement for 140HP. Most 140s will out drag it on accelleration but not outrun it on top end. It is a great engine for a fairly light boat.

It will probably accellerate a bit slower than the Force and use about half as much gas.

I think for a 2800LB boat I would go for the DF150 "big block", rather than the DF140. It is just a much stronger engine at low and cruise speeds.

Repowered my Wellcraft V20 last year with the zuki df140. Plenty of power to push this 3000 lb hull. Tops out in mid 30s mph. Put 200 hours on it in 3 months. No problem at all. Quiet and good on fuel. I'de do it again in a minute! There are three other df140s at my yacht club- oldest is about 6 years- no problems at all. Go for it!
