DF140 running in method

I take delivery today of my 23ft centre consul today with a new DF140. I replaced a Honda 90 4 stroke. Shoiuld go well...Suzuki here in Hong Kong say to run in by tying the boat alongside the pontoon and putting in gear at low revs and leaving for three hours and that's it.....I thought you were supposed to run in 20 hours at 300-3500 4000 4500 rpm...Could someone give some comment please.

Your owner's manual has the proper break-in procedure. Hopefully the newest edition includes a bit about running the engine wide open for a minute or so every hour to seat the rings. Your dealer is looking for a bunch of non-warranted powerhead work. read your owner's manual. If there's a problem after you follow the factory-recommended break-in, then you have recourse.

I broke in a DF140 this summer. The dealer told me the Suzuki rep recommended the following break in:

0-2 hours, keep it between 2500-3500 RPM
2-10 hours, keep it between 3500-4500
periodically it is OK to rev higher to help seat the rings but DO NOT let it idle for an extended period of time during the break-in.

Only have 40 hrs on the motor, but so far so good.

I guess the dealer was trying to help you save some "idle" time. If in doubt, follow the owner's manual. Enjoy that new motor.
