I am still trying to find out what I need to do for my 115 1997 Evinrude. The model number is E115TSLEUA, and the spark plugs are Champion QL77JC4. I ran a compression test on Sunday and the bottom two showed 110, the top left showed 100 and the top right showed 85. To remind, I have a problem with the motor clattering for a split second and then the rpm's drop and I have to back off the throttle to keep it from dying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is your original post on this? We see a post like this and don't really know what you are trying to describe. Are you sure your motor is not overheating and SLOW mode is kicking in?

I would remove the cylinder head, and have a look at that low cylinder.

Iam still guessing a broken ring on that cylinder as I said on your other thread.

But 85 mite not be low enough to indicate rings to a more experienced fellar than me.

Hope Iam wrong.

good luck!

Ok, just found the other post. Have you pulled the heads or at least the head with the low compression?
