i did the whole water pump kit. i replaced both thermostats and head gaskets and all the gaskets from there out. it ran fine for awhile then just started happening. eariler in the week i had run twice as far under worse conditions. more load and no problems? this really has me stumpped.

What did the water deflectors in the cyl block look like when you had the heads off ?

For what it's worth-

The wear plate in the water pump assembly is called a wear plate because it wears out, and must be replaced.

If it is not replaced and there is a lot of wear showing, you will not get a good seal from the impeller and thusly will not pump as much water due to internal leakage in the pump assembly.

Don't ask how I learned to change ALL the parts in a water pump assembly, not just an impeller.

the water deflectors were shot so i replaced them too. back when i did the water pump. and yes i replaced the wear plate when i was in there.

Try c, e, & i above. If the pump outlet grommet gets mashed during re-assembly, pump will not do well, especially at high power settings. Same with e. If an O ring seal is used, it's possible for it to become dislodged during assembly. I use hardening Permatex (very small amount in body groove) to hold seal in place during assembly.

If there's any junk (salt, sand, mud, etc.) stuck in water passages, cooling will be significantly diminished. Fix by blowing water and/or air into water tube. Works best with thermostats removed first.

Did you ever verify what the actual block temps were when the alarm was going off ? Like with a temp gun ? Try disconnecting the temp senders on the cyl heads to see if the alarm would shut up then ?

used water pressure and a pick to get what i could see. compressed air to get where i couldnt see very well.

to clean the water passages around the jug holes I have used a gun bore cleaning brush on a drill it takes the scale and crud right out...use a garden type sprayer to flush it out after...then blow it out next....

Never all comes out, just make sure remnants don't clog the tell-tale.

the tell tale is still flowing like normal and its cold to the touch.

Tell tale doesn't tell you much. It's tapped in before any cooling, just downstream of the pump.
