Did I screw my Johnson 150 up?

I bought a 19' Crestliner with a 150 Johnson VRO, V6 (I think it's a 1986). I lost the key, so rather than pay a mechanic $120 to make a new key, I replaced the ignition switch for $15 myself. After getting everything back together, I went about trying to start the boat for the first time. It took a while but I did get it going. Problem is it idles at super high speed. The lever you pull up to increase idle speed doesn't seem to change the speed, and when it's locked all the way down, it still idles at way too high of a speed. I took the control box apart (white metal kind) a few times, so I think it's put together right. Is there anywhere I can find an exploded view of the control box? (if that is the problem.
Help!!

Did you have any parts left over?

I believe you need to take it back apart and be sure evrything works like it should. Take the cover off the engine and be sure everything moves in the right direction and about the right amount.

If you can find an exploded view, let me know. I have a '75 Merc 115 that I had similar issues with. I could not find an exploded view and had to take it all apart and be sure verything was in sinc with the engine movement at the other end of the cables. Sorry I could not help more. Good luck

I doubt the switch is the problem, first check the throttle cable is operating normally maybe in diconnecting it there have been some changes in its adjustment. Look in the carbs to see if the throttle valve shuts fully at idle. Try disconnecting the cable at motor end and manually changing throttle. See if it idles normally.I don't think you have a big problem! Good luck!! :)
