i have a manual and it says to put the idle at 500-600 in idle gear does it need to be higher in neutral? thanks for the help guys.

is it good if spark plugs are black and sutty looking?

black and sutty looking spark plugs indicate a rich carb. I agree it should run at about 750 to 800 in neutral. This will drop you idle to the proper rpms' in gear. wot shoud be 3900 to 4300 according to the manual.

a 21 inch prop seems a it big for 160 hp

You are on the very minimum, and the gasolines used today aren't the same as that used in 67. Bring the idle up to 600 rpm and try it.

thanks alot everyone ill try that went today and got unk spark plugs i hope these are go spark plugs. ill rise the rpms and see what happens i hope this helps. it runs wot great but if was thinking it should go faster. does anyone know how fast it should go in mph?
