I have a 1996 Bayliner with a 130 alpha 1. When I shut it down it diesels and won't shut down. Can anyone help me?

Re: dieseling

Does this do this when?

After a full throttle run?

Its a carbed motor and sometimes you need to just let it run a few seconds longer at idal after a full throttle run to prevent that.

My V6 4.3 was doign that quite a lot it seemd during my break in period. It has stopped but will do it from time to time after running wide open. Its pretty normal I think on carbed motors but problably shouldnt be a constant problem.

When was the carbed last checked or rebilt?

Re: dieseling

what exactly is your idle rpms? being set to high will cause deasiling. It's probably the #1 cause of it.

Re: dieseling

The most common cause is to high an idle.
Second is the fact that people come down off a plane and shut off the engine immediatly. They need a 2-3 minute cool down before shutting off.
Third would be a lean fuel mixture in the carb.
After that, wrong spark plugs, timing may be the problem. The 3.0L engines are very prone to dieseling when things aren't right.
