Diet Pills?

Anyone had good, safe luck with them? Cost? I am looking to lose weight without all the trouble of exercising, eating right, not drinking beer and getting up from the recliner--unless to spend time on the water and it is too cold to do that.
Seems that after 50, everything you eat or drink turns to fat.
Thanks in advance!

Nope, but I have some snake oil for sale if you are looking for a pill to do that.

You have to be careful with any "diet" pill. Had a buddy of mine give me a bottle of Stacker 2. Took those. Taste horrible 10 minutes later and started to give me the shakes.

Ya I agree. I don't know if there are any safe remedies. Wanted to see if there is any new type pills that have been developed lately. The ones I have seen are loading with caffeine and I already drink 2 strong cups of coffee a day.
I will take Stacker 2 off the list

You're just asking for trouble, you're over 50, over weight, don't exercise, eat wrong and you want pills!
Keep a bag packed....you're on your way to the ER!

Might be a troll post!

Re: Diet Pills?

There are a bazillion pills and fad diets out there. All have some type of danger or side effect. Do your research before using any of them.

The safest way to lose weight is very simple....

...expend more calories than you put in...

...period.

Just keep it within reason. Don't go on any 500 calorie a day diet or anything. Your body will go into starvation mode and hoard every calorie you eat.

Be smart about dieting, change your eating habits for life. You will lose weight safely and be able to keep it off forever.

Unfortunately, there isn't a pill for everything. And every pill you take has a side effect.

Be sure to eat breakfast everyday, thats why many of us gain weight. We don't start our metabolism off right in the early part of the day.

I've always been told...

Eat like a King at breakfast, a Queen at Lunch and a Pauper at dinner when your metabolism starts slowing down.

Check with your doctor and see if you are healthy enough to exercise too. You may just want to start walking a little each day.

Cut back on carbohydrates such as potatoes, rice and white flour starches and have like 4 oz. of meat with a small side salad and a green vegetable and cut out carbs for dinner completely.

Re: Diet Pills?

I know you said you did not want to, but, cut out the beer, that alone will help. I have been trying to lose weight and could not, cut the beer, cut the sweet snacks and have lost about 10 lbs in about a month. I work in a office job, very little exercise there, come home sit on the sofa, no exercise there, got enough equipment upstairs to almost start a gym, too lazy to walk upstairs and use it. Going to try and start using it couple times a week, that will help me if I do. It is real difficult to lose without changing the eating habits a little and a certain amount of exercise.

The no-carb diet works. Eat bacon and eggs for breakfast, a big steak for lunch, and hamburger w/o bun for dinner. You will lose weight if you eat NO carbs. Try it for two weeks and you'll see.

Re: Diet Pills?

Thanks for the diet tips! I am only 15 lbs over weight now. I was 20. I cut back to 1 or 2 Bud lite beers a day during the winter. Cut out white bread for lunch. Usually eat whatever for supper. Just not happy with having to cut back on the beer. I get a lot more exercise during the summer so then I add more beer and snacks for the boat and grilling out.
I have been seeing all these diet pills advertised on TV

I don't think any of them will promote weight loss by themselves, but probably have benefits if used along with reduced calorie intake and exercise.

Re: Diet Pills?

change your eating habits for life.

More to the point, change your thinking, then your life and your eating will follow.

What the studies have shown is no matter which diet, the weight you lose will come back with even more weight gain....if you have an actual problem.

If you enjoy relaxing with a few beers, so what?
you may or may not die sooner but its not when we die that counts, its how we lived.

Yeah, and he'll pack it back on as soon as he goes back to his old lifestyle.

Re: Diet Pills?

Forget fad diets and miracle pills. I cant believe that anyone lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks without cutting off a limb to get there. 1 lb = 3500 calories. You have to burn 3500 calories above what you take in to lose 1 lb. How in the world can anyone burn 84,000 calories in a month?!? It's impossible.

The pills on the market are mostly B12 & caffine. Anyone over the age of 50 needs to particularly cautious with taking them, especially if you are overweight, have a sedintary lifestyle, or more to the point, don't have a regular exercise program. Be prepared for the jitters, loss of sleep and possibly chest pains, leading on to a possible cardiac condition.

If you truly want to lose weight, reevaluate your eating habits and start more moving around. A plan for 1-2 lbs per week is an easy goal. Limit yourself to 2000 calories per day intake and burn off another 500 by walking 3 miles. This should easily develop into a solid lifestyle without much effort. Atkins can work, but you can't live like that. Another easy tip is simply not to eat anything that has sugar as one of it's first 3 ingredients.

I wrote an exercise book but I will post it here for free for everyone. It's is a "no-miss" weight loss program:

"Eat less and exercise"

Best of luck to you.

A friend of mine was on this several years back. He wasn't particulary over weight (5-10 lbs) so I don't now why he even went on it. He followed it pretty much to a "T" and lost enough weight where he looked worse after the diet then before. He lost too much weight and his Wife was complaining so he went back to eating normal.

Re: Diet Pills?

I had a buddy who bragged he could always lose 20 lbs in a month, he could too but he looked sickly every time he did it.
And his thinking never changed so it came back in the form of 30 lbs just as fast.

I had a business partner who attended overeaters annonymous, she said OA has no diets, if dieting worked wouldn't they be the folks to have a one ?
The obesity problem centers in the mind and recovery focuses on thinking not doings.
We're human beings, not human doings.

a half pound of meth should fix you right up.
after that, your teeth will be shot so it will help to keep the weight off too.
