What is the difference between a standard lower unit and a CR one on a 235 crossflow?

Some have told me that one simply runs in reverse, is this true?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Well, there's a little more to it. The internals are different. You don't just run a left hand prop on the reverse gear (the gear wouldn't last too long). The 235's were never offered with one but you can retro one if needed.

I checked out the part numbers on the BRP website for the forward and reverse gear, and they seem to be the same thing.

So, what are the differences in internals?

The gears are different, the way the rear gear is supported is different, the propshaft is different, the bearing carrier is different....lots of differences. What year & hp were you looking at?

I have a pair of 235s and my lower units are standard rotation. I was gonna rig my throttles up so that one would always run in reverse. Won't do that now...
