1989 johnson 88 hp V4. The two plugs on the port side of the engine hae a light coating of oil, the two starboard side plugs are near white porceline and bone dry.theese are new plugs only used today, the old ones were the same way when i changed them.Could this be a head gasket problem?I'm planning on doing a compression test this week.Or is there anything else i can check. Thank you

It could mean your getting water in that side of the motor. Either thru the head gasket or the head it self. Either way this is not a good thing. Running at high speed with water getting in there will result in engine failure.

my compesion test was ok 140 psi on the side with the white plugs. If water is getting in through the head gasket would that have shown through my test?spark was ok too

the compression on the opposite side was only a few psi lower.
