Im no expert on wood types ( Woody would probably know best ) but I have learned its in the prep.
Like doing teak .. a heavy oily wood .. you have to acetone wipe right before you varnish. I acetone wipe any wood that im going to coat first.
I dont know why minwax would lift off ACX though ???

YD, What do you see as good grain? As I recall the ply I used was ACX sanded one side with a Minwax Spar finish.
Does wood type have any bearing on how well the finish will hold up?
