Different Transducer?

I bought a boat that has the mounting bracket and transducer for a Humminbird "Wide 3D" unit. The unit itself was missing but I found a "Wide One Hundred" which fits the mounting bracket perfectly.
There's just one problem: the Wide One Hundred reads erratically and completely inaccurately. Is it possible that the transducers are different for the two different units? Keep in mind that I'm a complete newbie to boating....

Yes, they make different transducers for different units of the same brand. Some are duel beam (Degree) transducers, some are 20*, some are 60*. Many are not interchangeable. Best to get the one that's specific to your unit.
