I went ahead a bought the boat and am very pleased, the motor seems to start and run real smooth. Is their anything else i should check out as a caution? Another question is where should the motor be trimmed when taking off(clear down?) Thanks

You will plane faster if you start trimmed all the way down and then trim up after you get onto plane.
Before you do too much boating I would change the water pump impeller. Opinions vary on this but Mercury impellers really should be changed every two years or so. A professional injector cleaning over the winter months especially on a motor you aren't intimate with is cheap insurance too.

Take off with the drive all the way down, once boat starts coming up on plane start bringing it up. Bring it up a little at a time until you notice the engine rpm is going up but no extra speed. Once that happens bring it back down a little, your now at optimum planning speed. If you increase or decrease speed from where your at a small adjust meant up or down may be needed. You will get the hang of it in short order. most just listen to the engine, it will let you know where the sweet spot is.
