Discovered new leak in lower unit?

ive got some really black junk leaking from where the bearing carrier meets up with the leg inside... its dripping ont the carrier, down the prop shaft and onto the prop. at first i thought it was the propshaft seals, but it looks like it is comming from above? what should i look for? sound familiar?

Hi GL<br />I had this "black junk" dripping off of my prop. I thought I had a leaky seal or something but I was told unburned gas-oil mix will start building up and will eventually seep down through the exhaust housing. On my motor, it eventually worked down to the thru-hub exhaust and out onto the prop. I think the guy was right because I checked my gear oil and it was clean 'n purty and stopped showing up once I began using the motor more regularly.<br /><br />Maybe same as what you're seeing?

actually i just did decarb, but i am using double oil for the breakin, now im done so im switching back to a 50:1 mix.

Did I hear you right? You just decarbed a motor that you are running breakin oil mixture in. Why? After you get done running the extra oil you should decarb. Why are you running the breakin oil mixture anyway, rebuild or new motor, in either case you shouldn't have had to decarb. Good luck!

motor has never been decarbed. just got done with that double oil, then decarbed. just wondered what that black junk was?? thought it might be a seal up top somewhere? anyways its there..

its a rebuild, 93 johnson 60 hp. it is running great, but that junk worries me.
