Awesome job so far! Glad to see this thread resurrected! Anyways, I'm not sure about how you are working your transom replacement with the cap on, but with my center console, I was able to just unscrew the cap from the hull and prop it up about 3-4 feet forward of the transom, at least so far it has worked. I haven't gotten it installed yet, so the clamps I built may not work with the cap on... but honestly, who thinks that far ahead??? Definitely not me! Anyways, I enjoyed the thread and look forward to keeping up with it!

Nice work so far man. I have been away for a while, but I am getting back to reading the forums. That stuff you see at the top of the transom is a bondo like glue that they use to put the halves together. You can tab to it, but it will be hard, so just make sure you have the sides done really good.

I'm thinking of grinding down the bondo glue smooth and straight. Filling in with with PB to make a better level uniform surface for tabbing purposes. Anything else I can do? BTW good to see you back on the Forum.

Thanks Gator. I feel like I've been resurrected. Had a guy run a red light, caused me to crash into a concrete wall. I've been in recovery for 4 months of physical therapy. I'm close to getting my clearance for unrestricted physical work. So I'm in planning mode now, and can't wait to get a grinder back in my hands! Will be posting lot's of pix and video in a few weeks.

First and fore most glad your alive! Watching how the progress jumped so far in advance to a recent date had me wondering until this last post.

Good luck with your recovery get well before you tackle this job once again.

Will follow along for when I cross this bridge for any future boat restos. I really enjoy reading the stories more than anything but one day I will have at it.

Thanks guys for your concern. Good news Dr. cleared me for physical work. Any recommendations on my resin fiberglass quantities I should plan on ordering? BTW 20' bow-rider replacing transom, stringers, and deck.

Very glad to hear you are doing much better!

For the materials, a good starting point is:
15-25 gallons of resin with catalyst
20-25 Yds of CSM, Chopped Strand Mat, 1.5oz.
15-20 Yds. of 1708 Biaxial cloth
Chip brushes
mixing cups
Plywood, any of the following; Marine Grade, Arauco, A/B Douglas Fir, Underlayment or MDO
PPE=Personal Protection Equipment=Disposable gloves, Tyvek Suit, Recommended full face respirator or goggles and a respirator
Bubble buster roller
Cabosil/Aerosil/Micro Ballons, any one or a combination, used for thickening resin.
1/4" Milled fibers, used to add strength to PB[peanut butter]...a thickened resin made with the fibers and one of the thickening agents above
Various tools and supplies

There's more, but I gotta run...

It's good to finally be back in action. I have read here that some guys are using the old channels left from the old stringers to install new stringers. Is this ok to do or should I grind down to the woven in the bottom of the stringer channels. Pix posted. Thanks Guys.

Nope, NOT a good idea. Cut em out, grind to fresh glass and reinstall..

I have several of these high large areas of resin and glass to remove. (Pix Below) Any speed tricks? I was thinking of 24 grit sanding disc and or 12" saw zall blades. Which sawzall blades work the best? TPI teeth per inch. Thanks for the help guys!

Just grind down to fresh glass. Don't worry about removing the whole mound of glass.

24 grit flap wheels on a grinder will make fairly quick work out those...

Removed the carpet adhesive today. I used an oscillating tool to remove the bulk of it. Then I used wire brush and 36 grit sanding disc. to remove the rest. That stuff is a bear to get off. Tomorrow I'm grinding on the hull. Pix below.

I had some interest in my dust collection system partially pictured in my last post. It's a HF 2 HP Industrial 5 Micron Dust Collector. I paid $149.00 for it and I'm very satisfied. I did upgrade to a 1 micron bag from Grizzly.com. I'm doing my grinding in my garage. This machine has cut my dust down 80-90%. Also I'm using less 3m particle cartridges. I keep one 4" on the hull next to the area I'm grinding and the other on top of the windshield.

I wouldn't go any other way working in a garage. I think it will help when I repaint too. The teal has to go. Going with red and black gloss.

I did some grinding over the weekend. posting some before and after pix. Still have a way to go. Anyone know of a good source to order 24 grit flap wheels? I can only get 36 grit locally.
