They don't work. The only people abiding by gun control laws are NOT the criminals with guns.

Gun control laws only work if they would actually ENFORCE them. Instead, the morons just make new ones.<br /><br />Like I've said here before:<br />Guns don't kill people...PEOPLE kill people.<br />Convince me a GUN is dangerous, and I'll give all my guns up.<br /><br />My gun control is just fine. I hit what I aim at!<br />Except when I drink too much soda... Then I just use my semi-automatic...I'll eventually hit what I'm aiming at!<br /><br />LOL!

NO, they do not work!<br /><br />Here in NY, we have some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, but yet the local "Skinhead" group near me continuously fire their automatic weapons everyday without anyone doing anything about it!<br /><br />(Automatic weapons were outlawed by the Federal Government years ago, which in my opinion was a good idea because what are you going to hunt with M-60 machine gun, there would be nothing left to eat after a M-60 was through with it!)<br /><br />So far, to the best of my knowledge, this group has killed at least 5 people in my area, yet they are still there, shooting away, EVERYDAY !<br /><br />So how can they be woking?<br /><br />But the local police want me to turn in my guns!<br /><br /> ONLY FROM MY DEAD, RIGORMORTICED HANDS! <br /><br />Kenny

It is a sorry mess of <br />bureaucracy wast. And has accomplished nothing. It<br />was originally brought into existence because of<br />the Montreal murders of 13 women by a wingnut that<br />thought women were responsible for him not making<br />the grade for an engineering course at the <br />Montreal university.

the problem with "gun control" LAWS is that only the lawful will obey ... ever see a lawful criminal? no, they are AWFUL criminals, and they dont give a **** about the laws of the state, nation or otherwise, only their own law of "ah be shoot de mofo, so ah be gets what he gots" and thats that - and no ethnicity implied, consider that criminal speak of any and ALL criminals, including the hyperintellectual nutjobs like the Unibomber (sorry SBN :p ) and what have you - THEY DONT CARE, all gun laws do IS MAKE THEIR JOB EASIER ... I am not for more gun legistration and believe many of the laws do very little good........But.<br />Are there not many instances where a crime is commited that involves a gun and the gun charge adds to the penalty often times resulting in a sentence many times more severe than the original crime? Isn't this a deturrent? Yes. I belive some laws are good and do indeed work.<br /><br />And what is a gun debate without the ever prevelant "well maintained militia" How many of you that own guns can point to this as the #1 reason you own them? Oh BS! sure if faced with the that eventuality you would use them but the last time you were in a gun shop you were looking through the scope imagining a thirty point buck, not some dictator who was running our country down the drain. I believe the same holds true for handguns, it was that intruder advancing towards your children that you seen in your sights not a rogue goverment.<br /><br />Do all gun laws work, No. Do most gun laws work, No. Do we need some level of gun control, Yes. Do some gun laws work, Yes. Unfortunatly the toufgh part is finding a good balance between laws and freedoms.

No law that is not enforced can or will ever work. You hear automatic gun fire, call the police. They will show up and lack probable cause to perform an depth investigation (I would too if I was paid didly and expected to go take some skinhead's machine gun from him). It's like the failures of the "War on Drugs", the INS, and the Simpson trial. But, is the lack of enforcement of gun control laws an institutionalized problem? Where the federal gun controle laws are concerned I would say YES. During the 1990's the Clinton administration teamed with the Handgun Control Inc folks got several pieces of gun control legislation passed. It is telling that there were 0 cases prosecuted for violations of the new gun control legislation. Heck, some of the legislation doesn't even make any sense! Take the assault weapon ban. Assault weapons are used in less the one tenth of one percent of crimes committed with a firearm; pistols are the overwhelming chioce of criminals, but there is no ban on pistols.<br /><br />In Florida we have the 10, 20, life law on the books and it is enforced and on the streets and uphekd in the courts. Use a gun in the commission of a crime-10 years in prison. Fire that gun-20 years in prison. Kill someone-life sentence. This legislation has been combined with television ads directed at young men, (the most likely demographic to use a firearm in the commission of a crime). Has it been effective? I don't know, I'll have to check, but it makes more sense to me than passing a bunch of legislation that makes people feel good, and doing nothing to enforce said legislation. That was Clinton's M.O. throughout his presidency, do a little somethin-somethin and make some meaningless statement in front of some cameras to make people "feel good" then disappear into the oval office.

I feel that no matter what the situation that I am always in "control" when I have the gun.<br /><br />A tripod will help with gun control also.

Some gun control laws are good. Having to wait while they do a background check is good, having a cooling off period before you can buy a gun has probably kept some people from killing their wives or mother-in-laws. I don't think people should be allowed to buy shoulder fired anti aircraft missles. But that's about as far as I go.<br /><br />Kenny, you only need a federal permit to own an automatic weapon. And all you need to get the permit is a clean record and a little money to pay the permit fee. They are still legal in this country. A gunsmith friend of mine has several machine guns that we shoot every once in a while.

I wouldn't mind seeing a law that would hold the registered owner of a gun responsible if a minor used it and someone was injured or killed.<br /><br /> As in, an "uncontrolled gun". One that wasn't locked, unloaded, or made unfireable or otherwise made accessible to a minor. <br /><br />Oh, and for your information. My experience has shown;<br />You can shoot any gun while riding any horse................once. :)
