Do i got the right idea

Im looking to restore my 14' fiberglass boat been reading for the last few weeks. I was wondering if 18 oz roving woven and 1.5 oz chopped mat is what I should use for stringer and transom replacement doing as much homework as I can to get this done right the first time. This is my first boat project thoughts ideas

If you are going to be using Polyester Resin then the 18oz woven roving and 1.5oz csm will be fine. A lot of the guys on the forum have started using 1708 biaxial cloth instead of the WR. They seem to think it's a lot easier to lay up especially in corners and wrapping over edges etc... A little more costly but...

Post some pics of your project and I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from the members on how to proceed.

Mat and roving will work fine, but instead if 18 oz use 24 oz, it will make a stronger laminate with less weight, plus 24oz is frequntly less money than 18oz. There is nothing wrong with 1708 either, just depends on what you can easily find and/or afford.

For a first time glasser 1708 is Way easier to apply.

You can use the woving/mat/woving/mat process if you like.

For that little 14 footer..either 1708 or 18 oz woving and mat would make it a tank .

Still out of town or I would already have pics up. What type of resin would I use with that 1708 like I said im pretty green at this fiberglassing

standard unwaxed polyester resin...

sometimes called laminating resin.....decking resin....boat building resin is usually really cheap stuff in the resin family......even cheap resin is stronger than needed in most situations.
