I have a problem with overheating on my '92 70hp evinrude. I've rechecked the water pump that's new and hasn't seen water except for muffs, I've moved the water indicator fitting from the lower exhaust cover to the top of the motor per the service bulletin.
This motor hasn't had a t-stat since I've owned it. Since I put one in the overheating has started. Yesterday I ran it on the muffs and the exhaust housing got extremely hot(not good) and it was peeing water like crazy out the peehole (good thing). I pulled the t-stat out, ran it again and had hardly any water coming from the peehole, kind of sputtering intermitantly. I didn't wait to see if the exhaust housing got hot.
T-stat is new and has been checked in boiling water.
I've been told that I may have a blockage(not from anyone on this forum). I was told to check the upper water tube grommet. Does the powerhead need to come off to do this? Because of the bend in the tube, I can't see straight up it.
I could really use some knowledge and/or wisdom.
