Hello iboats hope all your christmas days were merry.
For christmas I recieved a Garrmin Oregon400c. I am very new to GPS and from what I can tell from research this is a pretty high end, advanced unit.
I think this is more GPS than I need. I do very litttle actual offshore navigation. Mostly river and lake stuff.
I am concerned this does not have the road capibilites I need which is mostly what I will use if for, only 20% water use. Some light hiking, very light.

I have been thinking about exchanging this one for a NUVI 500.
Seems like a better fit for what I need.
Should I and then use the price difference for more boat toys.
Thanks

You can buy City Navigator DVD for the 400C, Stubbs. Check the Garmin International website.

Thanks for the reply JB. I know I can buy more maps, but that is another 100 bucks on top of the cost of the unit plus I will have to get a way to mount it In the car.
The nuvi has all that plus is rugged and waterproof. Also it is less money out of the box.
Does anyone think exchanging would be a mistake?

Depends on where you want a gps to take you on the road, Boogie. The built in maps do not offer the detail that City Navigator does. Several people have gotten lost trying to find The Hideout with "basic" maps because they simply don't show many rural roads.

You get what you pay for.
