Do Lifters Need to be ReAdjusted?

A couple years ago, I put a 1989 Mercruiser 120hp (Chevy) in my 69 StarCraft 18ft BowRider I/O. Runs like a champ! Very smooth and lots of power. After she's run, for a half hour or so, it starts ticking. Sometimes starts to sound like more of a knock than a tick. Question is, should I even bother adjusting the lifters? Or does this sound more like a wrist pin getting ready to let loose? Cold, normal valve train sound. You can hear the lifters moving, but no ticking. Warm it up and I get a loud tick/boardline knock. Oil pressure is always great hot or cold. Burns no oil and no leaks. Thanks.

umm i was thinkin of your prob though, are you sure its the lifters? should get a stethascope and gicve a close listen.

lifters wont knock they tap rattle and tik. They can be noisy at start up due to them leaking down, noisey once warm if oil pressure is low, and of course if wornout of adjustment but ive never really adjusted lifters after the initial setup.

Or,...
Run her til she Pukes...??

A motor without Problems probably wouldn't need the valves readjusted....
In your case it Might be a diagnostic tool,...
But,... By your description,... It sounds Deeper...

As the piston gets warm and expands it wrist pins deosnt expand as much so it will move around a little. Not much you can do about it except replace the piston and pin. I had an old 360 ford that ran for years (was my dads) with no second gear and a wrist pin knock. By years i mean 10+ of them. So thats my 2 cents

Now that you mention the 360 ford, it brings back memories of the 260ci in my first car, 64 1/2 Mustang convertible. (would be nice to have today) It had a wrist pin knock for many years. Being my first car, it was not babied. Knock never got any worse. More annoying than anything. Boat sounds the same after she warmed up. Looks like I've got a winter project coming. Boats mint. Can't see giving it away. or junking it for that matter. or make me an offer. Kind of got my eye on a F6 Firecat. (but that's a different forum) Thanks for the second opinion.
