Do tilt trim relay switches fail much?

My tilt trim switch at the helm stop working. I took the wires that come from the motor to the switch off the relay terminal and placed them directly on the battery terminal. Indeed the motor works. I then wired a new switch, and still nothing. Could it be the relays have failed?

The relays do fail - usually the switch contacts go bad after a lot of use. Normally the trim/tilt will fail in one direction only in this situation. Simple matter to replace the relay (or both) - make sure you replace the right one though.

Thank you for your reply -- I'm going to replace the relays as you suggest, as I'm down to that at this point. Hope fishing is good in NZ. Baja is hit and miss...

OK good luck. It's winter here at the moment so fishing not so good but will pick up again in the next month or so.

Just went throught the same situation I had a relay go bad TnT would go up but not down I replaced the relay however the wrong one still only up then Several people on this board sugessted that I had replaced the wrong one so I changed them out now good to go. You might reverse the positions of the relays to see if the TnT will work in the oposite direction if so get new relays mine was $20.00 + tax here in Texas. Good luck and good fishing.
