One of my ultimate gripes:

Are you advertising for free?

Do you wear T-shirts with 'name brand' logos, or drive around with a bumper sticker, or license plate frame with a business name or logo?

Most of us can figure out that the advertising business rakes in MILLIONS if not more every year. Do you think you'll ever get any of it?

NOT!

That is why you will never see me displaying stuff like that unless it's unavoidable like a name plate on my car etc...

I think a business should pay for it if you lug it around and advertise it.

Whayda all think?

H.

Re: Do you advertise for FREE ?

hmmm, i think that no one (average adult american) does it unless they are very impressed with the name/goods they are hosting a sticker for. back in high school, i had diff auto parts stickers on my car, had an anti-khomeni sticker on the bumper too, plus some comedic stickers for a laugh. and now american flag stickers only...

never had school/employer/educational institute stickers. or politician's sticker, that i remember.

dunno what you mean i guess. if i had a company, and you liked my dealings with yourself, then i might try to give you a sticker...

am i missing the point?

My old man told me that years ago Homerr and I think it rubbed off. ;)

maybe i just still think of word-of-mouth advertising, instead of big business? but then we should be buying boats/cars with no names on them, unless we get an advertising fee?

I have some Coke a Cola underwear, but no one sees them. Is that still advertising?

I have put in writing that I would not take delivery of new vehicle if they put their nameplate on it. When car came in, they drilled the holes and stuck the nameplate on. I walked on the deal out of principle. This was a "few" years ago, before they used the stickers.

IMO:

Yes, your Coca Cola 'clothing' no matter where you wear it would be advertising. Any name plate, tag or logo.

I dunno...Just one of those things that gripe me.
Thought I would vent.

What really gets me going is those really lame commercials you hear. How much are they really paying for them?

I'm mean really...A monkey and a football could do better in some of those commercial ads!

H.

Amen! I thought I was the only one! I'll wear one of those T-shirts---if it's FREE. Bumper stickers---NEVER. I agree, unless they pay me in some way, forget it! :)

How much will you charge us if you agree to have iboats.com tattooed across your forehead?

The first thing I did to my truck after I bought it was to get a razor knife, and go to werk on the dealer's glommy sticker on the tailgate.
But I still wear my Joe Camel tee because it was free.

nix on the forehead tattoo, but, an iBoats.com bumper sticker for my boat/trailer would be neat, maybe one with every order, hint, hint. :D

Re: Do you advertise for FREE ?

homer- not to start a fight, but when i click on the link to your project boat, i get a pop-up add for angelfire.com, which then advertise for other companies. so you're guilty yourself.

my point is, it's a good theory to try and not advertise for someone for free, but much harder to pull off.

take care-

Advertising to get FREE webspace.... hate to say it, but that's what keeps them free.

I agree on the name plate of the dealer... Glad to see you backed out of the deal when you told them not to put the plate on there!

Homeer think you have the right idea, but there are too many who will sink you. Somewhere you wear or display a sticker name. Check your wranglers, levis, dockers, socks, even some of the dress shirts and suits have suttle(sp) tags or patterns that they are know by.

P>S> I wear my freebies around the house!!!

Re: Do you advertise for FREE ?

I have no control over the ads on Angelfire, unfortunately. If you look at my web site of pictures, you'll notice there is no reference (other than their pop-ups) to Angelfire. Or at least I didn't put any there!

IN FACT: I have been trying to shut my free space down for some time now. They don't answer ANY of my e-mails to close it.

I must get 50 e-mails of spam every day with their free mail account. That's why I don't use them anymore. You try to block the spam with their spam filters, but guess what: It gives me errors when I try to. Go figure...It's probably their advertisers anyways.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll take the link down right now.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. And all this time my wife thought I was the only one who was thinking this way!

And Admin 5: Tattooed on my forhead? LOL!

First off: I have a grim outlook on tattoos in the first place (I don't have any, nor would I ever get one..and NO I'm not trying to start a fight)
If I was desperate enough to tattoo a logo on my forehead, I'd have to say lifetime free boat insurance and a hefty lifetime discount in your stores?

Beer?

Of course the deal would be off if I had the tattoo removed.

Wasn't there a couple of guys who did that very thing with a tattoo of some famous something-or-other and tried to sue over it? What was that all about?

H.

If you are wearing a USC (University of Southern California) "Trojans" football sweatshirt, are you a sports fan or an athletic suporter, or are you advertising for a well known company???
 ...Bob in Calif...
