Re: do you only trailer or are in part of a marine/yacht club

Marinas and yacht clubs make a lot of sense for some boats, but mine lives on a trailer in my yard. I am fortunate enough to live in a place that doesn't have dopey rules about what you can park on your property, so that's where I keep it - along with a project boat, a six wheel drive amphib, a utility trailer and whatever else I feel like having around. My neighbor has something like 14 chickens and they hang out under my boats sometimes, too.

I don't have a pool, but if I did, I'd prolly put an inflatable in it with a trolling motor. In fact, I doubt I would swim in it, so I could forget the chlorine treatments and stock the thing with largemouth bass!

Do you need dual batteries for pool trolling? ;)

All of mine are on trailers. ready to go where the fish are.
A pool to me is a giant test tank or livewell that takes up a parking spot in the yard.

Yeah, it defiantly depends on the type of boat you have... That's just common sense. You ain't gonna pull a huge boat out of the water every time if you have to have permits and a big rig to move her... I figured the OP was asking the question to thoughs of us that have "easily" trailerable boats (26' or less length and 8.5' or less beam).

Personally, I would not keep my 22' runabout in a slip if it was free. Too risky in my opinion security wise and you wouldn't be able to keep it very clean. All that scum build up on the hull is nasty and I couldn't stand it that way. It's not too much trouble to spend 5 minutes loading and unloading on the trailer. I'm gonna drive my truck anyway to the marina, so it might as well have the boat behind it.... The only thing I don't like is the occasional rock chip to the hull and the bug splats if I come home after dark....

I might be wrong and I'm sure there are exceptions, but it seems to me that the people with "trailerable boats" that rent slips or dry stack, aren't that into their boat. They enjoy their time on the water, but boating is only a small part of their free time. And/or they're the type of person who isn't very mechanical and just treats the boat as another vehicle to get from point A to B. IE. doesn't like tinkering, fixing or cleaning/waxing on their boat. Just fuel it up and run it. Pay someone else to deal with the other stuff. Which is all fine.... Just not me and a lot of other people on this board.

Just my 2 cents...:D

Trailer. Flexible. Can go to any lake at any time. Easy. And with folding tongue it fits in the garage.
