It's really hard to get a good judgment from the video. Your best bet would to do some core samples. Take a 1/4 inch drill bit a drill in about 3/4 inch. If the shavings are light tan and dry, you are good to go. If they are dark and wet, you need to replace your transom. Drill around the outdrive hole and towards the bottom, that's where the rot most likely will be. I would never take my family out on a boat with a bad transom, keep them safe is the #1 priority.

Well, considering it looks like the lower port side transom shield bolt and part of the plywood it was bolted to has completely separated from the rest of the transom (as shown in the video I posted), I would say shes a 0.

Get a hold of the seller.

BTW, does your engine have front motor mounts? If your's is one that doesn't have front engine mounts, keep in mind all the weight of the engine is hanging on that frail transom!

I agree that you will have to take some core samples, but I would use the 1/4 inch bit and go about 1 - 1 1/2 inches deep. Wrap some masking tape around your drill bit at that depth and drill into the inside of the transom from inside the engine compartment. make several holes around and below the waterline near the drain, and around the transom assembly. Dry light colored shavings are good, and if that's what you get, then you can fill the holes with some thickened resin or "Peanut Butter". If the shavings are wet and dark, or look like compost, then start reading up on transom replacement.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the cracking you see on the inside of the transom is caused by the wood inside the fiberglass swelling due to water intrusion, and that will most likely lead to rot. What year boat? Make, model etc... That would be helpful...

No way to give a 100% evaluation but from appearances I'd say that is a complete transom rebuild and if the transom is that bad, then chances are the motor mounts and stringers and deck/sole will all need replacing too! You could easily be looking at $2,000 in repairs and 200 hours of labor. And that's if YOU do all the work and BUY SMART!!!!

From the video I would say right in the 0 range, could be wrong and hopefully I am but if you take people out in that boat you will be rolling the dice on THEIR safety (imo). Take some samples as advised (but dont go 1 1/2" deep) 1" at most and close to the drive hole, the silicone around the outside is a major red flag -that alone would have me wondering and doing more exploring. Do it all from the inside and go from there. Not bashing Bayliners but that vintage is well known to be a rotter both the I/o's and the O/B models. Good luck with it...

I would give it a 0 or a 1 untill further testing is done. That piece of angle iron on the inside transome raises red flags as does the possible hole in the exterior glass on the starboard side, among other things already mentioned.

Test for safety.

Hope you didn't pay too much for her.....

I'd say its a no go for using on the water. I'm not the safety police, so do what you want.

I am no expert, but I have a somewhat similar setup in my '83 Glastron (AQ125A/270). My transom was in worse shape than yours appears to be, so I decided to pull everything and start fresh. I found that the damage was much worse than I could see with the engine and drive in place. My resto thread has several pictures that can give you an idea of my particular situation. If it were my boat I wouldn't feel comfortable on the lake. Not to despair though, with the vast resources that are on this forum you can be on the water in a better than new boat!

0, o ,0, I wouldn't want to ride in it with a transom like that.

Yes, it looks like its starting to go. If you want to be on the water this year, then go buy another boat. Otherwise, plan on lots of weekends up close with fiberglass and resin.
