If the beach is sandy it's usually bow in for me. I'll anchor bow out if I'm in the river current.

I never tie up to a dock and niether did my Dad or any of his friends as far back as I can remember.

Here is a decent view with my neighbors boat removed for winter. The finger docks wouldn't reach far enough down the side of the boat for loading/unloading. Backing in can be a bit of work with the wind, current, etc... but it's really the only way it's done here.

I default to bow-in, but am working on stern-in skills. The last boat was an 17.5', this one is 23.5 with a DPS drive. Still feels like driving a bus sometimes. I know this will garner laughs...but I'm paranoid of backing those props underneath a dock without KNOWING there is nothing there. At least coming in bow-first, I know the drive is clear. And it's a bowrider, so egress is no problem.

You may now commence laughing. :D (I really know very little about how docks are constructed, and what lurks beneath)

Stern in when on the hook, bow in when at the dock.

Stern in. Only way to load/unload.

Either/or. It depends on the situation at the dock where I am headed. Sometimes I bow in, other times I stern in.

I tie up bow-in and both my neighbors tie up stern-in. Looking around the marina, it?s anybody?s guess as to why people are tied up one way or the other.

I tie up bow-in for two reasons, the view, a beautiful mountain range and the sun.

Stern-in if you got an outboard engine and do your boating in saltwater like I do. After a nice day on the lake it`s much easier to hook up the freshwater hose and rinse the motor.
