Re: Doel-fins

Here's my take: If your boat performs OK, why drag any extra hardware in the water? Thats why I always try to trim the engine and distribute the weight rather than use trim tabs. I also don't like getting used engines with holes in their anitventilation plates. :)

Re: Doel-fins

I have a fin by stingray on my IO powered boat. It impressed me when I first put it on. I couldnt believe how much quicker on to plane the boat was and with very little bow rise. The prop bites the water much better in turns without ventilation,no bow rise, lower planing speed,if top speed suffers I cant detect it on my application.

I took the fin off when working on outdrive last season and haven't put it back on yet. Took the boat out for pre season commissioning run without the fin. I will definitely be putting it back on.

Spark-

If you go on the Stingray website owner forum and search Smart Tabs be prepared to spend an hour reading about the improved performance, well beyond the hydrofoils. Getting on plane, Hole Shots, will improve with a hydrofoil, but not nearly to the same degree as with Tabs. Here are a few things you won't get with a hydrofoil:

1)Stops level from any speed - water does not swamp the transom.
2) Low Speed wander (5mph) goes away)
3) No porpoising - even with the motor trimed up)
4) Tracks streight even through waves at a 45 degree angle.
5) rides smoother in any condition
6) more top speed AND better acceleration
7) At least a 35% reduction in the minimum planing speed.
8) minimum 50% reduction of bow rise even at 10mph before plane.
9) Money Back Performance Guarantee- if your are not satisfied with the improvement - you get your money back.

At this rate you will never know unless your budy puts Smart Tabs on his boat and grants you a ride.

Re: Doel-fins

NAUTIJOHN,
Will your SmartTabs help with listing from weight distribution??? I have an 18ft dual console deep vee, and fish with my 10year old son alot. I'm 6-3 @260lbs, and he's 5,5 @ 100lbs, so we always seem to ride low on my side. I've tried distributing things around abit, but we still seem to have the problem.
I am pretty sold on the idea of tabs instead of the hydrofoil I tried last year, and want to know if I can use the smart tabs, or do I need to go to the conventional trim tabs (Bennit, ect)???
Thanks

Boilermaker;

There will be an automatic resistance to the "list" even without compensating for the list through adjustments to the pressure. If the list does not go away with both Actuators adjusted the same, then you can increase the pressure on one side and reduce it on the other. This is common with aluminum boats that have a torque list, or other boats with kicker motors. No Problem, it is covered in the instructions.
