Does anybody make 2 stroke motors today I know evinrude makes a hell of a motor but it is too heavy for my boat?

think they all still make them to some degree size may be the limiting factor tho and of course emission concerns may play into what they sell today new

However I do know Merc has a 50 hp

Yes, but what kind of boat do you have ... brand, length, etc.?

Knowing that would help us give advice.

BTW, Evinrude makes a 25hp motor that weighs about 156 pounds. That's about twice as heavy as the 20 - 25hp two strokes that OMC made "back in the day," but its not out of the range of being usable, on most appropriately sized boats.

There are also plenty of older, used two strokes that can be had for little money. You may have to exercise some patience to get a good one, but they are "out there."

Actually, no, Johnson is not made anymore at all. BRP discontinued the line, but says that they may revive at some point in time.

just a little fyi if its weight your concerned about 2 stroke is the way to go as a similar horsepower engine in a 4 stroke is usually almost double the weight due to all the extra parts.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't Mercury Optimax outboards 2 strokes? They don't go down to 20Hp though.

There are a lot of Direct Injected 2 strokes available, and yes, they weigh a lot more than carbureted 2 strokes. . .pretty much in the same ballpark as equivalent 4 strokes.

If you want a light weight 25HP carbureted 2 stroke you will need to look for a pre-loved example, unless there are still Tohatsu carbed 2 strokes available in that range.
