Your 22 and you DON'T play video games? I think your the minority these days. Good for you though, getting out on the water, boating. It's a good recreation and hobby. I'm sure you will find someone one of these days. I've been where your at. Enjoy it while you can.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

Feel your pain.
I have friends who own boats and I have a hard time getting them to go out boating.

About ready to drag a keg on board and hang a sign that says "free beer". Internationally known as "new friend bait".

give me 2 days notice ahead so I can get there when the keg is tapped.

Well i raised my kids out on the lakes and rivers and my new wifes kids had never been around boats and this summer has been intersting. I have got one DIL and grand son hooked on boating and made decent progress on the remaining SIL and grand son.

Okay I'm game LOL Last weekend I sampled some Imperial Pumpkin from Long Trail and it was actually excellent! Big bait = Big Fish so you would get better results with Otter Creek, Long Trail (blackberry wheat and others), Sam Adams......... unless you want to catch all of the invasive species .....then you use Bud products.

Unfortunately Bob, the more colorful and rounded of the species seems to like Bud light or fruity drinks. I have found over the years that a battery powered blender works wonders.

I tried free beer that didn't work, these guys can't walk after two. I think a lot of them haven't really discovered that there's a much more exciting world out of the house. My buddy tried to convince me to buy a Verizon hot spot and an Xbox for the boat so they could play games but I think that's just madness sit in a cabin all day long when your on the water. I was talking to one of the girls I work with last night said the closest thing she's been to 'on the water' is going over a bridge. I grew up in CO and I still found ways to be in the water she lived in VB most of her life.

The boat I have is a 26' John allmand I'll try to get a picture up sometime today. I do realize I am way in the minority in my age group don't own any video game consoles, no TV. Computers like 8 years old.

maybe change your target. go after the complete stranger hottie at the bar with a few of her hottie friends. everyone needs bow-bunnies every now and then.

or you could tell your friends to bring their xbox on the boat, then when underway, toss it overboard

Have the same issue and I have gotten to the point where I just tell them. We(wife and myself) are going out here at this time. If you want to come let me know. Most of the time I get a few freinds but later on in the summer its usally just the wife and me. Which I'm fine with there is nothing better in my mind then turning the radio up setting the engine RPMs at 1800-2000 and cruising down the river.

Monday morning comes around and I'm sitting in meeting listen to everyone complain about there weekend and here I I'm with a nice tan relaxed and happy as a guy can be being at work.

BTW I'm 29 for reference.

bow-bunnies ....lol i like that.

dont ask people to come for a ride on a boat thats boring. tell people you are going to xxxxxx to see xxxxxx then planning on having a barbacue and a few drinks. to the female breed you will have to slip in the fact it has a ladies room on board as thats a deal breaker. intrest will be shown if they ask if they can bring a friend as they carnt use the ladies room on there own (thats where they secretly plan world domination and the down fall of men ). if you are near the ocean then dolphins are a great seller to the ladies. once the ladies are aboard then friends will follow.

IF you have a stereo unit installed, head down to your local stereo shop and but the smallest video unit you can find, and have them dangle the plugs for an xbox out the back, and then tell your buddies to bring the xbox! I've seen folks try and play on a 4" monitor, and it's pretty hilarious. That or just find new friends to hang out with!

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

not sure when boating went from cruising around , enjoying the sights and sounds, to blasting around at 40mph with a 1000watt sound system cranked? jmo, but a day on the water can be a major stress relief, why would anyone want to add video games or blaring music and speed to an otherwise relaxing day????

Amen Brother!
My kids were raised on the boat on weekends. Now the only one I can get in the boat is my Daughter and her friends. I am teachin her to drive. A day fishing with her and 3 other 17 yo girls is exhausting.
I can't pay my friends to go out on the water with me. I have pretty much given up on them. I have developed another group of friends, my "river rat" friends. We all meet up at the sandbar. Volley ball, swimming, music and beer....great day!!

In the same boat here. We ask relatives to go and get plenty of excuses of why they can't go. I gave up awhile back. I can't imagine why they wouldn't enjoy sending a relaxing day cruising on the water. We don't ask for money for gas. They do have to bring their own food and drinks. We even grill out after the usual 3 hour ride. People just seem to be stuck in their own routine. I wouldn't want them to go every weekend. Just every now and then would be nice. I really don't have time for friends anymore.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

The last thing I want in the world is extra people on the boat that I have to entertain or deal with. Boating is how I get away from people and spend time with wife and kids. Of course i'm in my 30's and hate video games and can't believe this is we have come to. The solution to your problem is that you need a goup of boating friends that were brought up to love it. just like you have golf friends, etc. I can only presume they will also be on their parents' health insurance until they are 26.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

I'd rather not have anybody aboard that didn't want to be there. On the shake out launch of my 18 foot boat, my woman invites a friend and her 2 kids that did not want to come out. They brought bag after bag of unnecessary stuff.
The boy, about 10 years old didn't want to listen to any commands. His 14 year old sister spent the day pouting and texting on her phone, presumably telling her friends what a boring terrible day she was having, lol

My opinion you are better off without those friends on your boat. Bring an Xbox? To play bass fishing? Hellll GO fishing for real!
Is there a boat owners group near you? Can you start one? You are better off making friends from people you meet at a raft up or on a sandbar that enjoy the outdoors, or have had a taste and want more.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

I have the same problem with my friends. They always have some lame excuse. Lucky the family and admiral enjoy going out. My best boating buddy is my pooch she always says yes, never complains, and goes with me every time! Get a dog.

One of my good freinds has the same problem with his lake house. Everyone always cancels at the last minute. So they always end up calling me because I say yes everytime and show up.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

Nice to see the concept of bait beer has been offered. If that isn't working well it is clear to me that there is a serious problem. The next and final test would be to start post ing pictures of you and smiling hotties in proper summertime attire drinking said bait beer and having fun either in your boat or with you. Show pictures (probably need to put them on Facebook so they will look at them) of your boat going fast, parked in front of bars or anchored on a sandbar.

If the concept of marine horsepower, cold and free beer, and attractive females can't get them off their butts, seek new friends. I am not kidding. Friends are suppose to enjoy and benchmark your life's changes and moments. If the day the I-phone 5 came out is a significant event for them or considerable amounts of time researching the next star trek movie is justifiable, that life just sound dull.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

Pointer, the issue is that sweaty-fingered-gamers are usually introverted and shy. pics and the idea of bow-bunnies puts them into an astmatic fit, their palms get sweaty, and they hide in basements

Which is pretty much where the OP started from.

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

Mr. Danforth, I had a waiting list for my little weekend trips when I was 22. Start out at Kurtz's hop in boat and buzz Neshota park and anchor out if there were (dare I say it) girls. Buzz up to manty and tie up behind the sub, go to digger Dave's or the fat seagull, or Chewys (rip) etc. Now you can swing in, say hi to rich Larson at the marina and spend the night if things go well. Hell, bust out the tv and watch the packers on the dock...

If someone told me it was too hot and was going to play Madden football in moms basement that would scratch him from the list going forward. Then those that did go would spend the day laughing at these types...

But back then a 286 was a state of the art computer....
