does anyone know what hp a 5.0 cobra HO engine has

I have a 1993 5.0 cobra HO and want to know what the HP is. I would also like to know what the hose on the port side of the tansom mount is. I think it is part of the cooling system but can't find a part number on any schematics that I have found.

Thank you. That is the part I was talking about. What would cause that to get a hole in it, Or am I just looking to much into it and it just wore out. And do you have to take the stearn drive off to replace it.

They just get holes in them sometimes. You don't have to remove the drive. It is however a b**** to change. For that year I show 3 different 5.0 engines, a 5.0, 5.0 HO, and 5.0 EFI, (185, 200, and 215 HP).

I replaced mine this year. It had a hole bellow the clamp where it attached to the transom assembly. From normal wear? Mine is an 86. I know the drive has to come off. I wound up doing the bellows and gimble bearing because they were more accessable. I also removed the pivot assembly. Be carefull when removing the pivot assembly. I messed up the inserts. FYI, 3/4 x 16 are the heli coil style inserts needed and are available at auto part stores, unlike the omc inserts that are about a week away. I used a brand called perma-coil, they are stainless and did the job.

Thats not correct. The 4.3 has 205 HP.

My book doesn't show the 4.3 having 205 HP until 1997.

Not sure what relevance the 4.3 has in talking about a 302, but I can assure you, it's only 215 for the FI and it goes down from there. I have the performance specs in front of me, and I own one. I didn't have the HO HP as it wasn't offered on my boat, but the carbed version was and it was only 190.

HP doesn't necessarily scale with increases in block size, but torque usually does. You can get 300 HP out of a 4 cyl. Does that mean my 8 cyl is gonna be 600 hp?

BTW, the reason I cited the FI and carbed and NOT the HO is because most people see the HO on the heads and don't realize it just stands for HO heads, but the engine is usually an HU, especially OMC/VP in those years
