Coils are off of a 1976 Chrysler 60hp outboard, model 609HA. Model doesn't exist in many systems that I've checked but I need to see where to find these. There are 2 of these bolted onto the engine block. Does anyone know where to find them?

This sounds like a continuation from an earlier thread about these Chrysler coils. I have zero knowledge to where you can find them. BUT, if you can't find them, how about substitution some from another engine to install on your engine? I mean if you can't locate the exact part, I would make some type adapter brace or bracket to use some other OB engine coil in their place. Coil design or function really isn't that much difference from one to another... Just saying. JMHO!

Try Franz at FranzMarine. He might have them.
These coils are for the MAG II ignition and they are mounted on the head under a cover soo it is not so easy to find any substitution that you can bolt right on.
You also have to have the right spec.of it. Primewinding about 0,5-1,0 Ohm and the most importent, sec.winding about 475-550 Ohm.
This is very importent because if you have wrong spec. the coil would not fire the plug.

Another thing about this MAG II ignition is that #1 coil is negative grounded AND the #2 is positive grounded.

Ask them at outboardignition.com. They could probably make you some.

So I found a replacement for the coil and have ordered it. Will the engine start without both coils getting spark? Or am I in for a whole other project when I get the 2nd coil?

Your motor will run on 1 cylinder.
Not good but will run.

Your getting some bad info."JMHO" All coils are not the same. Many are engine specific.
The car coils, they too won't work in most outboard installations.
Some Chryslers will take one if the ignition is changed.

If you get the wrong stuff.
Try Valley Sales in Prudenville,Mi

jerry, of course all coils are not the same. But if you have an engine with bad non-working coils and can't find suitable replacements, I personally could match up some other type spark coil to make that engine run perfectly again. So I am not saying do that first, but only as the only possibility of a last resort to get that engine running again. So NO it isn't bad advice in the least! You will either have a useless dead engine or an engine that possibly can run again. Which one do you want... Knowing the primary and secondary resistances and the wire gauges, it isn't all that difficult to match coils up... JMHO!

i found the replacement that's an exact part that is not working. i have compression in both cylinders around 90 psi for both. i get spark for both plugs when using one of the coils and then none for the other, that's the one that i'm going to replace. i'm getting fuel to the right lines, had a air leak preventing fuel to the engine but fixed that. any other suggestions besides getting the coil replaced? i'm very new to boats and engines but i'm trying my best to get my dads project up and running. the engine cranks and cranks but won't turn over at all
